SoD Phase 8: New Avalon Quest & Scarlet Disguise

by        Game: WOW Classic Season Of Discovery Guide

World of Warcraft Classic's Season of Discovery (SoD) Phase 8 PTR is live as of March 17, 2025, and it's dropping some juicy new content—like the New Avalon questline and the Scarlet Insignia disguise. This system lets you roam New Avalon and Tirisfal's Scarlet zones undetected by elites, and I've grinded it out to bring you this guide. From crafting the disguise to exploring every nook of New Avalon, here's everything you need to know—plus tips to save your sanity!

The Quest: New Avalon & Scarlet Disguise Basics

Start: After scouting New Avalon during the “Unrest at Tirisfal” club, Inquisitor Josephine at Tirisfal hands you “New Avalon”. You get the Scarlet Insignia, a trinket with this flavor:
“Don the Insignia of the Scarlet Crusade. While wearing four pieces of crafted Scarlet Military set or the Tabard of the Scarlet Enclave, your disguise will fool many Crusaders in New Avalon.”
Goal: Craft four Scarlet Military set pieces (cloth, leather, or plate) to activate the disguise buff—mobs turn friendly in New Avalon and Tirisfal.
Why It's Cool: Sneak past 61-62 elites without a fight—exploration made easy. Tip: No tabard source yet—focus on crafting.

Crafting the Scarlet Military Set

Recipes drop from New Avalon elites (RNG hell)—tailors, leatherworkers, and blacksmiths can craft:
Cloth (Tailoring):
Scarlet Auger's Vestment (Chest): 270 Tailoring, 2 Blood of Heroes, 5 Righteous Orbs, 10 Bolts of Runecloth.
Hood, Mitts, Shoes: Similar mats—total 64 Bolts, 10 Orbs, 2 Bloods across all four.
Leather/Plate: Use thorium bars, cured rugged hides, arcanite bars—exact recipes TBD but farmable in New Avalon.
Crafting Spot: Crusader's Loom in locked houses—death-skip inside to access (rez and craft).
Grind Details: Elites hit hard—group up or stealth. Blood of Heroes spawns in the zone; Orbs and Runecloth are market buys. Tip: Stock mats now—prices will spike post-launch.

Activating the Disguise

Equip all four pieces, use the Insignia—bam, Scarlet Disguise buff kicks in. Mobs (except Scarlet Blood Hounds) see you as friendly. Unequip a piece? Buff drops instantly—keep the set on. Tip: Swap gear carefully—dogs see through it and slap you with Rabies (ouch).

Quest Turn-In & Beyond

Return to Josephine, turn in “New Avalon”—no immediate follow-up, but the disguise unlocks exploration. Tirisfal's keep, New Avalon's docks, and more are now safe zones. Tip: Check every NPC—quests might hide in plain sight.

Exploring New Avalon: Full Walkthrough

With the disguise on, I scoured New Avalon—here's what's hot (and what's not):

Key Spots & Finds

Inn (Devonwood Security): Pay 5g to enter—no Hearthstone binding (lore nod to “malicious actors”). Bartender sells Badlands Bourbon; upstairs has NPCs chilling—rotten cheese included.
Crusader's Loom (Holy Threads Quest): Tailor Stitchings offers “Holy Threads”—craft 200 Dawn-Woven Fabrics at the loom (Bolts of Runecloth). Rewards a BoP Crusader Knapsack (24-slot bag). Death-skip to access.
Scarlet Keep:
Quartermaster (Prove Your Worth): Craft Scarlet Pants or donate a set piece into the Quartermaster's Crate—turn in to Baron Steelblade. Tier vendor uses Crusader Chalice (raid trophy?) for Sanctified gear (chest, head, gloves, boots). Shoulders/belt source unknown.
Alchemy Lab: Basement flask-crafting spot—no more Scholomance runs!
Docks: Fish barrels are attackable but empty—fishing quest potential? No pirate NPC (removed?).
Apple Orchard: Johnny sells Golden Bark/Shiny Red Apples—Johnny Appleseed nod. Archery targets animate—cool detail.
Church & Prison: Footmen chill, Thunderfury guy flexes—prison cells locked (death-skip empty).
Crusader's Tanning Rack: Leatherworkers, rejoice—back by the orchard.
Perrer the Goodest Boy: Pet this pup for Friend of Perrer buff (+10% HP, +5% damage, happiness immeasurable)—New Avalon/Tirisfal only.

Hidden Gems & Dead Ends

Lighthouse & Shipwreck: Swim east—lighthouse is decorative, shipwreck's empty (future quest?). Fatigue's a killer—watch your breath.
Coastal Ruins: North past invisible walls, Night Elf tower/dock tease Highborne ties—old asset or new lore?
Blocked Zones: Mage Tower, prison interiors, and rear keep gate (Death Knight flashback spot) are locked tight—raid tie-ins?
Why It's Fun: Dogs aside, the disguise opens a living Scarlet town—NPCs feel alive. Tip: Death-skip looms and racks—crafting stations are clutch.

Scarlet Blood Hounds: The Catch

These pups see through your disguise—Watchman's Mark blocks invis/disguise for 30s, and Rabies is a nightmare debuff. Dodge 'em or fight (priests, good luck). Tip: Map their patrol—stealth past or tank the hits.

What's Next?

No big quest chain post-turn-in—yet. Scarlet Enclave raid might tie in (chalices as tokens?), and locked zones hint at more. Perrer's buff and crafting stations scream utility—Phase 8's just warming up. Tip: Horde Undead Paladin vibes? Scout Gregory the Truthbearer in Deathknell—disguise might link.

Thanks for Reading

The New Avalon quest and Scarlet Insignia disguise are grindy but rewarding—safe exploration and QoL perks (alchemy lab!) shine. RNG's a beast, but shoutouts to Results May Vary, Inner Freak, and Named Fleabag for the recipe hookup. Phase 8's Scarlet twist is electric—get your set and roam! What's your fave find?
