PoE2 Patch 0.2.0: New Support Gems & Uniques

by        Game: Path of Exile 2 Guide

Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has just unleashed a wave of Path of Exile 2 news for the upcoming 0.2.0 update, highlighting new support gems and unique items. From chaos buffs to fiery strikes, here's everything you need to know to prep for the next big patch in this early access ARPG.

New Support Gems: Filling the Gaps

GGG's targeting skills lacking support options—think bleed, fire, and chaos builds. Here's the scoop on five new gems:

Derange

Effect: Adds an Energy Shield cost equal to your Intelligence; boosts non-ailment DoT damage by 8% per 100 Intelligence.
Take: A chaos DoT dream—perfect for stat-stacking builds like Trickster. Chaos fans, rejoice - this could spark new meta contenders.

Volcanic Eruption

Effect: Melee strike skills trigger eruptions on ignited enemies, dropping lava orbs for extra DPS.
Take: Flashy but situational - great against static bosses, less so against mobile enemies like Geonar. Monk's strike spam (e.g., Flicker Strike) might shine here over Warrior's slower hits.

Embitter

Effect: Converts non-cold damage to cold or boosts cold skills with other damage types.
Take: Sorceress Spark builds could freeze screens with this—pair it with Orb of Storms or Tempest for chaos. Flexible and powerful.

Concoct

Effect: Skills cost 20% max Life Flask charges; 2% more bleed magnitude per charge consumed.
Take: Pathfinder bleed builds get a lifeline—swap Shattering Concoction for this and bleed out foes. Needs more bleed synergy to truly pop.

Commiserate

Effect: 30% ailment magnitude boost if you're afflicted; removes your ailment on infliction.
Take: Demon Form Witch vibes—ignite yourself, spread beefier ignites, rinse, repeat. Niche but intriguing for self-ailment setups.
Verdict: These gems inject variety—chaos and bleed get love, fire strikes heat up, and cold conversions shake things up. More are coming (nine slots to fill!), promising build diversity galore.

New Unique Items: Fresh Loot Hype

Two uniques join the fray, teased earlier:

Bringer of Rain (Helmet):

Perks: Wield two-handed axes/swords one-handed, but no chest armor allowed. Offers armor/evasion but zero elemental resists.
Take: Cool conquistador look, risky trade-off—losing chest stats hurts endgame. Might shine as a skin more than a staple.

Hammer of Faith (Two-Handed Mace):

Perks: High physical damage (level 65), reduced attack speed, elemental resists, mana regeneration, random shrine buff every 10 seconds.
Take: Beefy but slow—shrine RNG (gold curse risk?) makes it gimmicky. Love the design, though—three tiny figures FTW.

Why these changes matters?

Support Gems: GGG's addressing build gaps - chaos, bleed, and fire fans finally get tools to compete. Expect more gems to round out the 240-skill roster.
Uniques: Risky but flavorful—Bringer's niche, Hammer's quirky. Endgame viability TBD, but they spark creativity.
Player Impact: Post-December 2024 early access, these tweaks signal GGG's listening—balance and fun are in focus.
